Biomimicry Research and Concept Design

The Minneapolis based company, Mobillize Design & Architecture, commissioned me to explore how biomimicry and biophilia could maximize a refurbished factory which was transitioning into a co-working space for local start-ups.

In the first concept stage, I looked at how termite mounds create community among different parties. This was the central theme throughout the space. Other aspects focused on sound and controlling as well as spreading light throughout the space as natural lighting was limited and sound in an open space setting could be noisy and distracting. The concept design also had to consider flexible, multifunctional uses of the space to be ideal for day to day work, so modular and customizable design solutions were explored as well.
